Blake jumped out to an early lead and kept the pressure on the Rockets from start to finish scoring every inning but one. 5 team errors turned into 7 unearned runs which helped to fuel several rallies for the Bengals. Kept off balance at the plate, the Rockets were able to rally in the third inning to close the gap to 5-3. However, the following inning, Blake increased their run total taking advantage of walks and miscues in addition to several solid hits. Matthew Harab settled on the mound in the middle innings but was unable to finish the game. Pitcher of record, Matthew took the loss on the mound.
The Rockets were led offensively by the heroics of Jeremy Oziel and Ben Silverman combining for several hits including the winning run and rbi in the bottom of the seventh inning. Oziel led off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit to left field and an eventual stolen base. With the infield in, Ben Silverman laced a line drive over the shortstop's head to plate Jeremy Oziel from third base. Michael Linkins pitched a strong 5 innings giving up 5 runs, only 3 of which were earned. Jeremy Oziel got the win on the mound pitching an inning and a third of relief work.
Several early errors by our defense and aggressive hitting and baserunning by the Patriots, led to a lopsided victory for Wootton. Mason Dunham was the starting pitcher for the Rockets. A competitive starter against the perennial powers, Mason was removed in the second after several walks, hits and errors ballooned the score to an unreachable margin.
A great game from start to finish, the Rockets were unable to put together a late inning rally to overtake the undefeated Cougars. Another early lead was squandered by several miscues and timely hitting from the Cougars. Jeremy Oziel got his first start on the mound and kept the Cougars off-balance through almost 3 innings only giving up 1-earned run. A 2-2 game in the sixth, the Rockets were hoping to upset the Cougars two years in a row but were unable to move baserunners in the late innings.
The Rockets were not able to secure an early 2-run lead and lost to the surging Wildcats. A well-played baseball game opened up in the top of the 4th inning with the Wildcats stringing together several hits while taking advantage of two walks and and a miscue in the outfield. Lack of timely hits with runners in scoring position limited the run production for the Rockets. A last inning surge was too little, too late as the Rockets fell to a 3-5 record.
Stranding many base runners throughout the game, the Rockets were able to push across enough runs to defeat a scrappy Rockville team. JP Hoover, starting his first varsity game on the mound, pitched six strong innings, walking 2 and striking out 5 batters. Great defensive plays by SS Jeremy Oziel and 1B Mason Dunham foiled all Ram attempts to rally. Offensively, the team was led by Ben Silverman (double, single) and two RBI's. JP Hoover was 3-3 on base.
7 errors and 8 walks led to the 4th loss of this young season for the Rockets. Up 7-1 early in the third inning, the Rockets miscues both offensively and defensively left the door open for the Jaguars to tie, then take the lead to earn their second victory. Offensively, the Rockets were led by Ben Silverman who continues to pound the ball consistently to all fields. Aggressive base running got the early lead for the Rockets, but was washed away with the inability to finish off the opponent. RM hopes to bounce back today against Rockville. Hopefully, we will play better defensively to compete with the tough 4a opponents that remain on the schedule.
A lackluster performance by the Rockets led to a lop-sided 9-1 defeat. An early push by the Trojans (2-0 after the first inning) was never answered by the Rockets. A few walks and several timely hits early in the game, gave Gaithersburg a commanding early lead. Several spoiled attempts to score by the Rockets put us on our heals and took some of the sting out of our bats. The team was led offensively by Jeremy Oziel posting two hits, a single and a double. The Rockets hope to rebound against Northwest, Rockville, WJ and QO this week.
Crafty and confident Mason Dunham pitched a one-hitter against perennial power Whitman Vikings. A no-hitter through 5, Mason mixed a sharp breaking curveball with a heavy-handed fastball to keep the Vikings off balance. Defensively, our team committed one error for the game, a season low. The game ended with a ground ball off of Mason that ended up in the glove of Michael Murphy who turned an unassisted double play. The Rockets banged out 6 hits and capitalized on several errors and walks from the Vikings. Note: In a Spring Break tournament, the Vikings beat the Rockets 26-12.
In a reversed site game, the Rockets fell to the undefeated Sherwood Warriors. The Rockets were able to score 2 runs on 9 hits and the Warriors scored 11 runs on 7 hits. 2-2 after the 4th inning, a couple of miscues led to a 5-run fifth for Sherwood. Michael Linkins pitched a masterful 3+ innings to keep the Rockets in the game. The team was led offensively by Ben Silverman. Ben went 2-4 with a double and a RBI.
A rainy, cold afternoon produced the first victory for the Rockets defeating the pesky, well-coached Blazers by 4 runs in 7 innings. Mason Dunham battled the wet, cold elements for a 6 strong inning win on the mound. Strong defensive plays made by Andrew Lee and Ben Simon kept the Blazers from big innings and opening up the game in the middle innings. Lead-off hitter Ben Simon, and the number 2 hitter JP Hoover, got on base every at bat to keep pressure on the Blair defense. Aggressive basestealing, despite some early miscues, led to a 4 run victory. Timely hits by Andrew Lee and the hot-hitting Ben Silverman kept needed distance from the Blazer offense.
A see-saw scoring battle would eventually turn Poolesville's way and give the Rockets a 7 run defeat. Michael Linkins was the losing pitcher, leaving the game in the fourth with the bases loaded for JP Hoover. Poolesville scored 10 in the fourth to take a 16-8 lead. Ben Silverman led the team offensively with a single and two doubles.
